Bridge to Darkness…

Just playing around with some older pics and turned this late summer photo into an autumn “Bridge to Darkness”, slightly surreal look picture. I think it leads you into a foreboding scene where only you imagination can hint at what you might find!!!

Petworth House Under Grey Sky

Hi all,

This is a photograph I thought you might like that I took of Petworth house approaching from an old cart track towards an old giant tree. There are two figures in the distance approaching the house. It is late afternoon and the clouds were beginning to gather. It just had that moody effect and classic english country side feel. It reminds me of famous painting but I’m still trying to find it. The grounds were designed by Capability Brown. J. W Turner and Anthony Van Dyck used to hang out there, amongst others, so I am sure one of them painted a similar scene… Let me know if you have any ideas!

I got a really nice reply from Gustavo Moniz Ferreira who saw my photo on 500px and did a little research on a painting I shot displayed at the above  Petworth House. He found out that the painting of the table (below) is called “Gulliver Presented to the Queen of Brobdignag” and the author is Charles Robert Leslie. The picture was painted in 1834/35 and has the dimensions of 100 x 123 cm.

The Old Fig Tree

Hi all,

I was in Santa Monica yesterday and caught this giant old Fig Tree. It was at the Fairmont Hotel on Wilshire near to Ocean. I thought for a moment there was a Howler monkey lurking in the branches. Can you see him? Thought you might like to take a look! Check it out on 500px too…

Century Park Towers in Black & White by Mike-Hope

Hi all,

Hope you have a Happy and Safe 4th of July!!!

I just posted this one on 500px and thought you might like to take a look! It is the two towers at Century Park where the Annenberg Space for photography has some great exhibits, currently Country: Portraits of an American Sound. It really is worth a visit and is always free!! Can’t beat that… I took this photo while looking up on a sunny and clear afternoon. Then I used some post black and white filters to give it the dramatic effect.

Hi all,

I was inspired to put this together from another picture using wet glass. I took five pictures of the sunflowers with different exposures and fused them in an HDR program. Then I used filter software to create the wet glass layer look and blended it together.  Let me know if you like it!!

Time Moves

Hi all,

Thought you might like to take a look at this one. I took a shot of an ornamental gift clock / weigh machine in a great curio shop in Lake Arrowhead. Hand held with the Canon EOS-M and a 40mm lens on f/2.8 in low light so I could get a narrow depth of field and natural look. Then I applied some oil paint effects in post to give it the oiled canvas look, adjusting light contrast etc., as I went. Let me know what you think?
